Unique Identification Authority of India came in to existence in 2013. This government body was formed in order to take control and issue Aadhaar cards for citizens all over India. It is a government document that can be used to validate an individual’s identity. This card also serves as a proof of residence.
What is an Aadhaar Card?
An Aadhaar card is a government document that has a 12 digit Unique Identification Code. The reason it is one of the most unique documents in India is because it captures the biometrics of an individual. This makes it very difficult for anyone to try to forge or misuse the document. Aadhaar card was introduced with an aim at providing equal opportunities to people all over India. Citizens belonging to all classes can use this card as a proof of their existence.
How to Apply for an Aadhaar Card?
Applying for an Aadhaar has become a cake walk in today’s date. You can either do it online or offline. The offline process is obviously more tedious.
- Search for an Aadhaar card center near your house. This is easy as the government has made sure there is at least one center in each locality. In some there are more. You can click on this link https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx and find out about the center closes to your house.
- The next step is to either download the form online https://uidai.gov.in/forms.html. or visit the center and collect the form. Please note this form is for free. Beware of fake agents who try to extract money from you.
- Once you fill in the form with the desired documents, you will have to fix an appointment. This appointment can be taken by physically going to the center or by logging on to https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/
Unlike some other government documents, verification of Aadhaar card is done in a more specific way. For instance if you have applied for an Aadhaar card, you have to be present at the centre at the given date and time. Your details will be verified by a government official. After which you will be asked to sit on a chair facing a webcam. Your photograph will be clicked on the spot. This picture will be used on your official Aadhaar Card. You will then be asked to place all the fingers of your left hand on a device that will mark your fingerprints.
Once the validation process is done you will receive your Aadhaar card at the given address.
Please Note: If you are currently residing in a rented flat or a temporary address make sure to give the address of your permanent residence. Your Aadhaar card will be sent to the permanent address as it is already verified.
